OUR HISTORY
In response to the great need of cancer information and services in Farsi in the Iranian Community, a few Farsi speaking volunteers approached the Canadian Cancer Society in early 2005. The first cancer forum in Farsi was held on May 1st, 2005 as a result of that collaboration. This event, with the participation of over 500 people, was greatly appreciated by those whose lives were touched by cancer.
Our Achievements
With the support of Canadian Cancer Society in 2005, we have been able to provide the following cancer support information and services in Farsi for the Iranian community:
- We have organized three informational forums on cancer prevention with participation of Iranian researchers and specialists.
- Our volunteers have worked with the Canadian Cancer Society to translate thirty brochures which were distributed at the forums. We plan to make these brochures available in hospitals and Iranian medical centers.
- We organized five radio programs with the financial support of the Canadian Cancer Society and the generous support of Radio Sedaye Iran.
- We set up a volunteer supported hotline (905-597-0096)
- We collaborated and coordinated a specific fundraising event: 'Taking Steps against breast cancer' with the support of the Iranian community at Earl Bales Park on Saturday 24th of September, 2005.
- We responded to the needs of Iranian cancer patients through our hotline and cancer support service.
